Dr. Esselstyn Lectures at Florida International University
The Joan and Harry B. Smith Lecture Series sponsored world-renown heart specialist, author and stalwart supporter of nutrition-based heart disease prevention and cure Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn Jr. to present a lecture in Miami.
Titled “Learn How to Treat Coronary Heart Disease Using Plant Based, Whole Food Nutrition With Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn Jr.”, the lecture on October 21, brought to Miami by the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Dean John Rock, MD (www.medicine.fiu.edu), was presented in FIU’s College of Business auditorium before an enthusiastic and quizzical audience.
Featured on CNN, Dr. Oz and in the widely acclaimed movie, Forks Over Knives, Dr. Esselstyn has been named one of “The Best Doctors in America” by Woodward and White. Since 1968, he has been affiliated with the Cleveland Clinic where he has served as the President of the Staff, a member of the Board of Governors, chair of the Breast Cancer Task Force, and head of the Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery Section of the clinic.
Dr. Esselstyn received his B.A. from Yale University and his M.D. from Western Reserve University. In 2005, he became the first recipient of the Benjamin Spock Award for Compassion in Medicine. On the athletic side, Dr. Esselstyn is an Olympic gold medalist in rowing. He was awarded the Bronze Star as an army surgeon in Vietnam.
Dr. Esselstyn and his wife, Ann Crile Esselstyn, have followed a plant-based diet for more than twenty years. They work together to counsel patients in Cleveland.

The Joan and Harry B. Smith Lecture Series is presented annually in October. Issues that affect the quality of our lives are presented by experts in their respective fields and have included topics such as nutrition, ADHD and noise abatement.
