What is the power of the smile?

  Meet the
Right Mate Scenarios

By Ruthie with Dr. Michael

Scenario Number 8
The Man With A Lovely Smile

You are at the same party as Scenario #7

You pass by a strikingly handsome man who has a lovely smile; he is talking to some other woman. The female caterer is carrying around a tray with delectable finger foods. He reaches for a tidy bit as she began to go in another direction, inadvertently pulling the tray away as his piece, not yet tightly grasped, falls to the floor. He impulsively blurts out “Stupid idiot!”

DISCUSSION

What do you do with that?

Poor manners, isn’t it?

You might think to yourself that it was only a server, anybody might act that way, in view of his physical superiority; it might not be so bad overall. AND OTHER RATIONALISATIONS!

Don’t try to fool yourself into ecstasy by imagining all kinds of hopeful visions of you and him. Beauty only lasts three seconds and then you have to live with a real person and don’t doubt it for a moment, dear reader — you will be the next target. Watching how people treat others, particularly servants, is one of the best indicators of one’s character.

And so you move on without comment.

The above situation is a courtship event.

In other situations, when you discover that the other person is unkind, do exactly what the woman here did. Move away.

Don’t explain or complain. They have been identified, face reality, grieve your fantasies and continue with your life. It will only get better.

A few short stories to emphasize
that we all like to make excuses for ourselves:

Statements of drivers following auto accidents:

I knocked over a man. He admitted it was his fault as he had been run over before.

One wheel went into the ditch; my feet jumped from the brake to the accelerator pedal, leaped across to the other side, and jammed into the trunk of a tree.

I collided with a stationary tramcar coming the other way.
