View the boom on the Web June 5, 2006 • Now courtesy of the City of Miami Planning Department, you can view the real estate boom without venturing out into traffic-clogged streets. The Planning Department, working in conjunction with the Information Technology Department, has launched a Web application known as the Real Estate Development Database. The website can be found at www.miamigov.com/planning or through the city’s Geographic Information System Portal, www.miamigis.com. Successive clicks of the mouse permit the user to zero in on a spot on an aerial photo map of the city and bring a building into close focus. Away from the street closures, cranes and other traffic tie-ups, anyone can browse the site for events, rules and legislation on general topics or related to specific projects. The website provides information on big real estate projects, ranging from their zoning classifications to the number of residential units in a condo project. The city said that demand for its Large Scale Development Report triggered development of the site. Miami may not be able to expand much horizontally, but interested parties can still track development upward. Source: www.MiamiHerald.com.
